Business Days Calculator
Count the working days between two dates — weekends are excluded automatically, and you can subtract public holidays for your country or state.

Example
Count from 1 July 2026 (a Wednesday) to 31 July 2026, inclusive of both dates, with 1 public holiday in the range. That span covers 31 calendar days, of which 8 fall on a Saturday or Sunday, leaving 23 weekdays. Subtracting the holiday gives 22 business days — the same as 4 weeks and 2 days of five-day working weeks.
How it works
The calculator walks the range one day at a time, from the start date to the end date inclusive. Each Monday-to-Friday date counts as a weekday; each Saturday and Sunday counts as a weekend day. Business days = weekdays − the number of public holidays you enter (never below zero). Calendar days are simply the inclusive span between the two dates. Because holiday calendars differ by country, state and even city, holidays are a manual input rather than a guess.
Good to know
Watch the counting convention. This tool counts inclusively: both the start and end dates are part of the range, so Monday to Friday of the same week is 5 business days. Many banking, legal and SLA conventions instead count exclusive of the start day — “10 business days from receipt” usually means day 1 is the first business day after receipt. To match that convention, either move the start date forward one day or subtract 1 from the result if the start date is a weekday.
The definition of a business day is not universal. This calculator uses the Monday-to-Friday week common in North America, Europe and most of the world, but in several countries — including parts of the Middle East — the weekend falls on Friday and Saturday, and in parts of Asia, Saturday is a half or full working day. If your counterparty works a different week, count their weekdays separately rather than relying on the Monday-to-Friday assumption.
Holidays are why the manual input exists. There is no single worldwide holiday calendar: the United States has 11 federal holidays, England and Wales have 8 bank holidays, India's list varies by state, and many observances shift when they land on a weekend. Look up the official list for the jurisdiction that governs your deadline, count how many of those dates fall on a weekday inside your range, and enter that number.
Typical uses: checking whether a contract's “within 15 business days” clause has run out, estimating a shipping or bank-transfer window quoted in working days, planning payroll cut-offs, or counting court filing days. For anything with legal or financial consequences, confirm the counting rule (inclusive or exclusive, and which holiday calendar applies) in the contract or the relevant court's rules — the convention matters as much as the arithmetic.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator include the start and end dates?
Yes. It counts inclusively, so both endpoints are part of the range and Monday to Friday of one week is 5 business days. If your deadline is counted exclusive of the start day, as banking and SLA conventions often are, subtract 1 when the start date is a weekday.
Which days count as business days?
Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded automatically, and any public holidays you enter are subtracted on top of that. The tool assumes a Monday-to-Friday working week, which is not universal worldwide.
Why do I have to enter public holidays myself?
Holiday calendars are jurisdiction-specific — they differ by country, state and sometimes industry, and observed dates shift when a holiday lands on a weekend. Look up the official list for your jurisdiction, count the holidays that fall on a weekday inside your range, and enter that number.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No — this calculator runs entirely in your browser. The dates you enter never leave your device, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.
People also ask
How many business days are there between two dates?
Count every Monday-to-Friday date from the start date to the end date, then subtract weekday public holidays. For example, 1 to 31 July 2026 inclusive spans 31 calendar days, 23 of which are weekdays; with one holiday that leaves 22 business days.
Do business days include weekends and holidays?
No. A business day is a weekday on which normal business is conducted, so Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are excluded. Which holidays apply depends on the country or state whose calendar governs your deadline.
What does 5 to 7 business days mean for delivery?
It means 5 to 7 weekdays, not calendar days, usually counted from the first weekday after your order ships. Depending on weekends and holidays, 7 business days can stretch to 9 or more calendar days.
